Brief LITE Plan Background:

In 2000 Stamps.com (SDC) anchored with its licensing agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS) further partnered-up with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to bundle their internet postage software for use on select HP printers. With HP having over 120 million printers in the marketplace, this SDC-HP alliance was anticipated to bring greater value to postal users. It would combine the power of the internet with advances in imaging and printing.
Subsequently, on June 20, 2012 SDC introduced its LITE Plan where it offered, at no cost to users, a stock image gallery of 10 images. Each image was described by a word listing for each of the listed image subjects. This LITE plan was designed to have users print entire SDC supplied sheets of 24 stamps with one pass through HP All-in-One printers. During this operation, one of the supplied images would be printed on each stamp along with 1st first class, 1oz letter denomination. SDC subscribers had no choice of denomination and could only choose from the 10 offered images. The #1 FLAG was the default design under this LITE plan.

             1) FLAG (entire US flag)
             2) BUTTERFLY (blue and black butterfly)
             3) SUNFLOWER (blooming sunflower)
             4) THANKS (Thank you for your business!)
             5) SNOWMAN (decorated snowman)
             6) EARTH (North and South America on a globe)
             7) HAPPYFACE (yellow happy face)
             8) MENORAH (Menorah on a blue background)

Brief PRO Plan Background:
Simultanious with the free LITE Plan (also called Basic DoD), on June 20, 2012, SDC offered its PRO Plan (also called Premium DoD) where subscribers paid a monthly fee. Ten additional stock images were provided to support this PRO Plan. The #1 TIGER was the default image under this PRO plan.

             3) RECYCLE (REDUCE / REUSE / RECYCLE)

Note: The postage stamps printed under both of these Plans was called "Designs on Demand (DoD)." Initially HP printers (models 6600 and 8600) printed in black and white until a software fix corrected this. By the end of 2018 the SDC app for HP web-connected printers was withdrawn. Throughout that time, 6 different first-class denominations were available during 7 periods.
Some clever collectors devised ways to print their own images on SDC DoD blank label stock. It became possible to print unauthorized images on DoD NetStamps using any desktop printer with multiple passes through the printer.
