John Travolta took to the skies piloting his own 1964 Boeing 707-138B (dubbed "Jett Clipper Ella")
in a round-the-world flight as Qantas Airways official "ambassador-at-large." His "Spirit of Friendship"
tour began July 1, 2002 starting in Los Angeles, CA. He flew to Auckland, New Zealand and Australia
making stops in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. He then flew to Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Rome,
Paris and Frankfurt, before winding up his trip in New York on September 21, 2002 logging over 30,000 miles.
Accompanying him were his wife, Kelly Preston and their two children, Jett and Ella Bleu.
Travolta hoped his round-the-world flight would encourage people to use air travel and help restore
confidence in the industry in the wake of the 9-11 terror strikes. He began taking flying lessons at 16
earning his pilot's license in 1981 and now has logged over 5,000 flying hours with eight pilot license
qualifications.
