British European Airways (BEA) began as BEAC (British European Airways
Corporation) on August 1, 1946 as the European division of the British state
airline, BOAC. BEA Airtours became British Airtours with the merger of it's parent
company, BEA with the long-haul state sister airline BOAC. British Airways (BA)
was formed after the British government forced a merger between the two British
state airlines (BOAC and BEAC) on April 1, 1972. British Airtours, a subsidiary
of British Airways arranged a tour round-the-world in 1974.
