On July 3, 1948 the international FAM-14 (Foreign Air Mail) route added Guam on the
its round-the-world routing. The addition of Guam coupled with the previous international
FAM-18 route that had begun on September 26, 1947 made it possible for mail to travel
completely round-the-world by regularly scheduled air mail service of the US Post Office.
International FAM-14/18 service was provided by Pan American Airlines. US domestic service
provided the link between San Francisco and New York.
