On May 4, 1949 the US international FAM-14 (Foreign Air Mail) added Seattle WA and
Portland OR as US dispatch points for air mail service to Calcutta, India. Coupled with
FAM-18 routing, this allowed mail to travel completely round-the-world from the Pacific
Northwest by regularly scheduled air mail service of the US Post Office. International
FAM-14 and FAM-18 service was provided by Pan American Airways. US domestic air mail service
provided the link between Seattle/Portland and New York. F.D. Campbell was the pilot for this
FAM-14 first flight.
