On September 25, 1947 the international FAM-14 (Foreign Air Mail) route was
alternatively routed via Tokyo, Japan and Shanghai, China by-passing Guam on its way to
Calcutta, India. On September 26, 1947 the route now connected with the international FAM-18
route continuing to make it possible for mail to travel completely round-the-world by
regularly scheduled air mail service of the US Post Office. International FAM-14/18 service
was provided by Pan American Airlines. US domestic service provided the link between
San Francisco and New York.
