On June 26, 1947 the US international FAM-14 (Foreign Air Mail) route was extended
to Calcutta, India. On June 27, 1947 the route now connected with the US international FAM-18 route
making it possible for mail to travel completely round-the-world by regularily scheduled
air mail service of the US Post Office. International FAM-14 and FAM-18 service was provided
by Pan American Airways. US domestic air mail service provided the link between San
Francisco and New York.
