In June 2014 to enhance its business, Stamps.com initiated its third
"Promotion Stamp Program." They chose their very popular patriotic flag stamp incorporating it in a block of nine
on a promotional sheet (Figure #1). This stamp supported the "Pledge of Allegiance" of the United States of America
(Figure #2). Each stamp had an alpha-numeric serial number starting with "WN" followed by the month and
year of issuance (Figure #3).
Stamps.com sent out 9x6" envelopes via the USPS to former customers
and hopeful new ones containing a letter, test sheet and promotional sheet containing 9 blank flag stamps. The
enclosed letter encouraged registration using an attached limited time code offer. Upon successful registration,
Stamps.com automatically added $5 postage to the user's account and sent a Welcome Kit to the user which contained
a sheet of Original NetStamps, a sheet of small Americana stamps and some shipping labels. The 4-week free
trial was only free if canceled before the 4 weeks (not a month) were up. If not cancelled in time, the user's
credit card was billed automatically for the "free" month along with the next month.
Over the implementation of this Promotional Stamp Program,
Stamps.com used 11 different promotional stamp sheets (Figure #4).
Below is a representative collection of stamps issued monthly,
each stamp with a WN serial number with month and year of issuance.
