The fairy tale romance of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles raised worldwide
interest in Britain's royal family. Crowds packed London streets and millions
watched worldwide on television as Charles (32) and Diana (20) exchanged vows at
St. Paul's Cathedral in London on July 29, 1981.
Shortly thereafter, beginning on September 9, 1981 a three-fold round-the-world
flight was made commemorating the 70th anniversary of the first United Kingdom aerial
post, the 50th anniversary of the first non-stop flight between Japan and the US made
by Hugh Herndron and Clyde Pangborn and the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Diana.
Covers were flown round-the-world per the below itinerary. The Tokyo to London
Concorde leg of this three-fold commemorative circumnavigation was captained by
John D. Eames.
