On May 22, 1953 the international FAM-14 (Foreign Air Mail) route was
alternatively routed via Saigon, South Viet Nam and Singapore.

This allowed mail to travel completely round-the-world by regularly scheduled
air mail service of the US Post Office. International FAM-14 service was provided by
Pan American Airlines.
