Ernest A. Kehr was a stamp columnist and the stamp editor for the New York Herald Tribune.
He regarded every stamp in his collection as a source of information about the country and the
peoples by which it had been issued. He distributed philatelic materials to Veterans' hospitals
as head of Stamps for the Wounded and, as a newspaperman, produced more lineage to support
philately than any other person in history. His book, "Romance of Stamp Collecting" (1947) was
also the hobby's standard for new collectors for decades.
Allan Jackson (December 4, 1915 ~ April 26, 1976) was a newscaster on CBS News. He participated
in a popular 50's radio show, "Youth Takes A Stand" (1953-55). The format of this show had a panel
of young people questioning a newscaster concerning current events. The resulting discussions
provided interesting listening to the CBS audience. Supporting these interests, Jackson traveled as
an airline passenger round-the-world. He documented this circumnavigation by having an airmail cover
canceled at the various stops as he flew round-the-world. The airmail cover was addressed to his
stamp collecting friend, Ernest Kehr.
