On October 16, 1948 the international FAM-18 (Foreign Air Mail) route added
Boston MA as a dispatch point for air mail service to Calcutta, India.

Sinalarily, on February 2, 1949 the international FAM-14 route added Los Angeles CA
as a dispatch point for air mail service to Calcutta, India.

This allowed mail to travel completely round-the-world from Boston MA and Los
Angeles CA by regularly scheduled air mail service of the US Post Office. International
FAM-14/18 service was provided by Pan American Airlines. US domestic service provided the
link between Los Angeles and Boston. Jack H. Tilton was the pilot for the FAM-14 first flight
and J. Knowing for the FAM-18 first flight.
